National Chocolate Cake Day with Voortman Bakery

Wednesday was National Chocolate Cake Day! Did you know that chocolate cake is statistically favored more than vanilla? I mean, who doesn’t love a slice of rich, decadent chocolate cake on any type of day. I know I definitely wouldn’t turn down a slice of chocolate cake! Chocolate cake was born in 1975 when a doctor and a chocolate maker teamed up together in an old mill. The world has been forever changed since. Chocolate cake is a staple for celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, and so many more special occasions. January 27th happens to be National Chocolate Cake Day so I decided what a better day then to share my favorite chocolate cake recipe!

The Best Chocolate Cake

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook time: 30 minutes

Extra time: 5-10 minutes

Total time: 60 minutes

Ingredients:

• 1 cup of sugar

• 1 3/4 cups four

• 3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

• 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

• 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

• 2 eggs

• 1 cup of milk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons of real vanilla extract

• 1 cup boiling water

• 1 package of Voortman Bakery Chocolate Wafers

1 Jar of maraschino cherries

Instructions:

Step 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease 2, 9 inch round pans

Step 2. In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Combine and mix together for 2-3 minutes or until mixture is thoroughly mixed. Stir in boiling water. Batter will end up thin.

Step 3. Pour evenly into each 9 inch pan. Bake 30-35 minutes in preheated oven. Test cake with toothpick to insure it is cooked completely. Let cake cool in pans for 10 minutes and then move to wire baking rack.

Step 4. Ice cake with desired icing. You can make your own or you can buy store bought. Dirty ice the sides on a cake stand. Then neatly line Voortman Bakery Chocolate Wafers along the side of the cake. You can do swirls on top, add whipped cream, chocolate shaves or sprinkles, and of course, don’t forget to add your cherries. Slice and enjoy!

This cake is one of my favorite and truly the star of the show when I bring it to special occasions. In honor of National Chocolate Day, I knew it would be the better cake to slice and enjoy with my family.
