Homemade play dough

I have being searching Pinterest for fun things to do with the kids and stumbled upon homemade play dough. I don’t know about other moms but we go through play dough like crazy because either one of the kids leaves it open or it just isn’t great quality. The great thing about homemade play dough is it lasts so much longer and is so easy to make. Now, the kids had extra fun making this batch but if I did this by myself it would take only a few minutes. Afterwards, throw in a ziplock bag and it should stay fresh for months!

Ingredients:

• 2 cups off all-purpose flour

• 3/4 cups salt

• 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar

• 2 cups of lukewarm water

• 2 tablespoons of vegetable or coconut oil

Optional items: food coloring, glitter, spices, chocolate chips

Directions:

Stir together flour, salt, and cream of tartar in large pot. Next add water and oil. If you are only making one color, add color now. Also, feel free to add glitter or spices, which is great for sensory. Cook over medium heat until it has formed into a dough ball with storing frequently. Let cool and then lay out to play or put in ziplock for later.

We made our Halloween batch last week with orange food coloring and basil which filled the whole house with aroma. I let my kids use kitchen utensils as well as other toys which will leave them playing at the table for quite some time. This is such a good project for hand eye coordination as well as sensory and fine motor skills. Not to mention it’s cheap and easy!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe. What other diy ideas would you guys like to see? Let me know in the comments below.
