6 Ingredient homemade bread

This 6 ingredient bread recipe is not only easy and great for beginners like myself, but absolutely delicious! I’ve been wanting to try out making our own bread for awhile now. Between the rising cost of organic bread and all of the junk that’s in the rest of the bread in grocery stores, I’ve been wanting to find an alternative for our kids that doesn’t break the bank. My dad gifted me his 1990’s bread maker a few months ago. I had it sitting in our storage room, but a couple days ago it was rainy with no where to go so I decided to give it a try! I had no idea just how easy bread makers make baking bread, but I can officially say I’m sold. It is easy, convenient, and a great way to have homemade bread with little to no effort put in.

My first attempt! It was large, but tasted delicious. Don’t forget that not every attempt will come out looking beautiful and that’s okay.

I didn’t have instructions or a recipe book so the first loaf I made was larger than I would’ve hoped and a bit more toasty. I adjusted the recipe a bit and finally perfected it after three tries. The last loaf I made turned out perfect!

This was the third loaf I made and it came out perfect! Great flavor, soft and moist, and the perfect crunch to soft ratio

6 Ingredient Bread

Prep time: 5 minutes

Rise and cook time: 3 hrs

Total time: 3 hrs and 5 minutes

Ingredients needed:

•2 cups of warm water

•1/2 cup of sugar or sugar alternative

•1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (you can use a different type of oil or melted butter if you prefer

•1 1/2 TSP of salt

•5 cups of bread flour (we use Bob’s Red Mill)

•1 1/2 TBSP of active dry yeast

Instructions:

Step 1: Start by adding the liquid ingredients to your bread maker bowl. Add water, oil, sugar, and salt. Next layer the dry ingredients on top. Add all 5 cups of flour on top. Lastly, evenly sprinkle your active dry yeast on top of your flour.

Step 2: Plug your bread maker in. I set my bread maker on crust level low and cycle basic. Close the lid and let the magic begin.

Step 3: Once the bread maker cycle has finished, take your homemade bread out and let it cool for 10 minutes. You can serve fresh or store for later use.

This bread recipe can also be used without a bread maker. You would just prepare the dough in a hand mixer and then let the dough rise for 1-2 hours before baking in the oven in a bread pan.

Homemade bread does not have all the preservatives as store bought bread. With this in mind, the bread will not last as long and must be stored properly to stay fresh.
