5 Tips to healthy, long hair

It’s no secret that I love my long hair and have been trying my best to keep my hair happy and healthy in my transformation from black to blonde. I have had longer hair for years and honestly, look terrible with short hair. But over the years I have done my fair share of research. I began my hair transformation back in August and along with my amazing hair stylist, I have been taking some extra measures to ensure my hair stays healthy and growing during the process. Here are my top 5 tips that I have tried and had a huge success with!

1. Collagen Powder

Collagen powder is known for having many benefits, one being hair, skin, and nail growth. I began putting collagen powder in my coffee(which makes it pretty much invisible to your taste buds) and let it do its magic. Not only has my hair and nails grown faster, but stronger as well. I have also tried collagen shots and mixes, Vital Protein is my favorite.

2. Coconut Oil Hair Masks

With having long hair, I have done coconut oil hair masks in the past to help get tangled hair undone. Little did I know just how good it was for my hair! I began doing 12-24 hour coconut oil hair masks and my hair got stronger and softer. I buy the Walmart organic brand, heat it up just a little and lather my hair. After it’s evenly spread out, I put on a cover and let it sit. I try to leave mine on for as long as possible, but even overnight is amazing. I do this at least once a week.

3. Hair, Skin, and Nail Supplements

These are a huge reason why my hair has grown so much. I use THIQUE and take them daily. They have biotin and other ingredients that are known to help hair growth. If the pills bother you, I recommend finding a gummy brand. Just make sure to research the brand and check the ingredients to ensure you are getting quality brand.

4. Limit hair washes to every 2-3 days

Washing your hair daily can actually deplete your hair oils and dry out your hair. Washing your hair every 2-3 days is recommended by most hair stylist and helps keep your hair healthier.

5. Keep you hair in braids when swimming and at night

To prevent tangled hair and other damage, braid your hair before bed, swimming, and other activities. Avoid putting your hair up in a pony tail and bun as it pulls hair commonly causes strain.

Among those 5, here are a few other hair care tips that I use!

•Hair Growth Shampoo/Conditioner

•Leave in Conditioner

•Get frequent trims

•Avoid heating tools

•Finish your shower with a cool rinse

•Brush often

•Sleep on a silk pillow case

•Avoid heavy cleanses

•Take prenatels

I take extreme care of my hair to ensure it stays healthy and happy. During my transformation, my hair has definitely had some struggles but my stylist has been amazing and taken it slow. I also got a trim my last session and plan on getting another one.

I hope these tips were helpful! Have something special you do for healthy hair? Share in the comments below.
