After a few fast-paced, back-to-back months of deadlines, commitments, and constant motion, April arrived like a soft exhale. It reminded me that slowing down isn’t just allowed — it’s essential. For the first time in a while, I gave myself permission to lean into the quiet moments, the in-between spaces, and the kind of simple joys that don’t require a camera roll full of proof.
This month, I let life feel a little softer. Slower. More intentional. And honestly? It was everything I didn’t know I needed.
Between walks with my kids, unhurried and full of their curiosity, to day dates on the golf course with my husband — just the two of us, no distractions — I felt myself coming back home to the present. Even the quiet afternoons spent on our deck, wrapped in a blanket with a romance novel in hand, felt like small acts of rebellion against the pace I’d grown used to.
Slowing down doesn’t mean stopping. It just means noticing. Noticing how your coffee tastes when you’re not checking emails. Noticing the way your child’s laugh rises and falls when they’re telling you a story. Noticing how light changes in your home throughout the day. And how different your body feels when it’s not rushing from one thing to the next.
Here are 5 ways I’ve been prioritizing presence and slower living this spring — maybe they’ll inspire you too:
Scheduled Slow Time I actually block off time on my calendar for nothing — no meetings, no errands, just open space. Sometimes I use it to read. Other times, I just sit outside and listen to the birds. Creating margin on purpose helps me protect my peace.
Unplugged Walks with the Kids. Phones stay in the pocket(for safety of course). No music. Just the sounds of their questions, observations, and wild little imaginations. These walks remind me how quickly time moves — and how much I’d miss if I wasn’t paying attention.
Golf Dates with My Husband There’s something about being outside, in sync, and away from the usual to-do lists that brings us back to each other. No rush. Just conversations and laughter between swings.
Reading for Pleasure Not for productivity, not for learning — just for joy. Romance novels have been my go-to escape lately. They pull me into other people’s stories and slow down my racing thoughts.
Intentional Mornings Instead of jumping straight into emails or social media, I’ve been starting my mornings with breath, movement, or journaling. It sets a completely different tone for my day — one that feels grounded and aligned.
As April comes to a close, I’m carrying this slower rhythm with me into the months ahead — holding onto the reminder that presence is the real productivity.
Here’s to more days filled with meaning, not just movement. And to living like the moment matters — because it truly does.
Xoxo
